My team at Almabase started using LinkedIn voice messaging immediately and saw some results. A huge shout out to my colleague Chris Pordon for organizing this session and compiling notes for our reference.

Here are our key learnings from the session:

  • It is very important to be humane in the outreach in the current times more than ever.

  • Showcase yourself through voice and video with a human touch.

  • Connecting on a note of something personal about the prospect, not necessarily relating to their specific role or job. Eg, mentioning their interests or background. How is your kid's school handling COVID? How are things in (your town)?

  • Platinum Rule -treat others as they want to be treated >>>> Golden Rule -treat others as you want to be treated.

  • Your prospects want to have conversations that are focused on them - their needs and priorities.

  • 3x3 Personalization Rule - Take 3 minutes to learn 3 things about them and use that to drive the conversation.

  • Interacting with your prospect’s content - maybe they don't post on LinkedIn much or it's not practical to comment on their content. But there is something the company page has posted, announced, etc, interact with it.

  • If there is no content to interact whatsoever, you can try tagging the prospect on something that might be useful for them or forwarding them useful content. The idea is to engage the prospect with what they have going on or useful to them, not what we have going on.

  • Download the LinkedIn mobile app and use it to send audio and video messages to prospects through the app. See the below screenshot for video and audio message options on the LinkedIn mobile app.

  • Before the media file, send a short sentence that summarizes what you're going to talk about in the voice note or video. Think of this as a subject line.

Creating the video/audio message:

  • Use your prospect’s name, this makes it clear it's not a template.

  • Tell them why you are sending a message, similar to what an effective cold call should include "the reason for my call..." before someone loses patience.

  • Audio - Keep it under 30 seconds; Video - Keep it under 60 seconds.

  • Give them a Call To Action, such as 'can we set up a 20-minute meeting?' or ask an open-ended question that starts a discussion.

  • Thank them in advance.

Bonus: Right after your call with the prospect, email, or LinkedIn Inmail a short audio/video message thanking them and recapping your next steps.
